Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, on or about 12/9/98, employees were using Hi Jacker mobile jack ladders, Mdl. HJ-15-M, SN. 69655 and SN. 68656 and exposed to falls of up to 19' due to falls or equipment failure in that: ostandard guard rails were not available and secured to the work platform when employees using the mobile jack ladders were working from the platform at heights up to 19'; ocontrol cables and chains used to elevate the jack ladders to heights up to 19' were not being maintained in good condition to prevent damage to the wire ropes owheels on mobile jack ladder, SN. 69656, had large chunks of rubber missing and was worn to the metal caster. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards include use of guardrails when elevated, conducting daily visual inspections and remove from service of unsafe equipment in accordance with the provisions of ANSI A92.3 "for manually propelled elevating work platforms."
