Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by unsafe loads: a) On or about December 4, 1990, employees were exposed to being struck by swinging or falling loads of wooden trusses some fifty feet long, weighing 380 pounds being lifted overhead via a single point "s" shaped piece of rebar. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is for the employer to follow the Truss Plate Institute's Bracing Wood Trusses "BWT-76" for lifting truss spans between 30 and 60 feet with a spreader bar.
