Investigation Summary
On April 3, 2009, Employee #1 was assisting in the removing and replacing of expansion joints on a bridge of highway, which spanned 6 miles. During the work, the right lane of the road was closed in order for the required work to take place. At approximately 3:20 a.m., the work was completed and Employee #1 began to exit the work zone to retrieve his vehicle that was parked on the northbound shoulder of the highway. As Employee #1 stepped out of the lane closure, he was struck and killed by a truck that was hauling cars.
