Investigation Summary
At approximately 10:38 a.m., on July 9, 2002, five employees attempted to lift the large heavy wood-framed wall inside the building to position it, and as they raised the wall, it began to slide. When it slid into the anchor bolts, the supervisor determined that the wood-frame wall could not be raised and decided to let the wall down. The instruction to "let the wall down" were announced in English, but was not announced in Spanish (there were Spanish only speaking) employees. When the wall was let down, it pinned Employee #1, a carpenter, between the wall and the floor. Other employees immediately lifted the wall off Employee #1. Paramedics responded and took the employee to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted to a hospital and remained for 9 days. Employee #1 was transferred to the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center on July 18, 2002 for acute rehabilitation care and was discharged from the hospital on August 22, 2002.
