Abstract: At approximately 3:37 p.m. on October 18, 2009, an employee, a recent hire, was performing his normally assigned duties as a cook. He was working in the cooking area and was changing the water for the ramen noodles. For this process, he was removing boiling water from the large cooking pots which were on the stove at the time and was placing the boiling water into a smaller two handled pot, with diameter of 14-in and height 12-inch, to dump the water into the nearby sink. The employee stated that he was carrying the last pot of water to the sink. As he approached the sink, he stated that he tripped or slipped and the pot fell to the ground and the water splashed out of the pot landing on his chest, back, both arms, neck, and face. The employee stated that he is not sure whether he tripped or slipped and does not know whether the floor was wet at the time of his accident. The employee further stated that at the time of his accident, he was wearing boots, a short sleeved shirt, long pants, an apron, and gloves. The employee was hospitalized at Los Angeles County USC hospital and treated for second degree burns to his chest, back, both arms, legs, and neck.
