Abstract: On June 13, 2012, Employee #1, with Ashby Lumber, was using a Whirlwind Underhung Cut-Off saw (Model Number: 216) to cut two in. by six in. lumber to 36 in. lengths. Employee #1 placed his right hand on top of the wood and under the guard. Employee #1 activated the guard which came down on the wood and this then activated the saw blade that came up from the bottom and cut the wood and the right pinkie of Employee #'s hand. Employee #1 was hospitalized and the finger tip was amputated. No violations were discovered. The saw was properly guarded as required by CCR, T8, 4306.
