Abstract: At approximately 9:30 a.m. on December 8, 2006, Employee #1 was employed by a firm that was engaged in the construction of single-family homes and repaired recreational vehicles as well. He started work that day at 7:30 a.m., cleaning up scrap material above a false ceiling. He had gained access to the area above the false ceiling from an opening located adjacent to a bay area. He knew not to step on the false ceiling tile, because he could fall through the false ceiling. He was standing upright. As he attempted to step on a 2-by-4 wood piece for support, which would have provided both support and access to the scrap debris he was collecting for disposal, he apparently lost his balance. His left foot inadvertently landed on the false ceiling tile, and he fell approximately 9 feet to the thinly carpeted surface below. He sustained a fracture to his right leg, and he was transported to Corona Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted and surgery was performed. He was hospitalized for approximately one day.
