Abstract: At approximately 10:00 a.m. on October 24, 2005, Employee #1 was cutting a stack of five boards (1-in. by 4-in. by 6-ft) on chop saw Number A7, located in the cutting and nailing area. When Employee #1 pulled the chop saw handle to make a cut he noticed the self-retracting guard got stuck in the down position. Employee #1 tried to raise the guard with his left gloved hand at which time his left hand came in contact with the running blade causing amputation of his left index and middle fingers, and laceration injuries of his left ring finger and palm. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
