Abstract: On April 4, 2004, an employee, a meat cutter, was cutting a piece of shank on a Hobart Band Saw that was used to cut meat products to size. The employee stated that he made several cuts on the piece of shank and it suddenly turned in his hand. He stated that the turning band saw contacted his right index finger. The employee's index finger was amputated between the first and second knuckles. The band saw blade had the proper guard on the band saw and a fence to guide meat products through the saw a predetermined depth of cut. The employee was not hospitalized.
