Abstract: On October 1, 2002, Employee #1, who works for a potato farmer as a truck driver, was driving a truck that has a bed with a belt in the bottom of the trailer bed. This belt removes the potatoes from the trailer. The belt is driven by a hydraulic unit. The shaft of this drive unit had four setscrews that projected from the shaft. Employee #1 reached under the drive shaft to brush a potato back onto the belt. As he did this, a setscrew caught Employee #1's glove and coat and pulled his arm into the turning shaft, fracturing his arm. He was hospitalized.
