Abstract: On January 22, 2001, Employee #1 of Winegarner Masonry, a masonry contractor, was working at a school construction site in Indio, California. A gas powered full-sack mortar mixer 's rotating paddle amputated the first digit from the second and third fingers of Employee #1's gloved right hand when he reached through the opening in a broken mixer paddle guard while attempting to remove a piece of cement bag. Employee #1 was transport to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, where he was treated for his serious injuries and released.
