Abstract: An electrical worker who was nearing journeyman certification was working for an electrical contractor. He was assigned to install lighting fixtures and secure them to a drop ceiling grid. However, he was not certified to connect the branch circuit wiring to the fixtures. Contrary to his company's safety manuals and training, which specifically prohibit employees from working on energized circuits without special safety equipment and without prior evaluation and approval, the employee started connecting the lighting fixtures to the energized branch circuit conductors. The employee, who was not wearing rubber insulating gloves, contacted an energized conductor after he had connected the neutral and equipment grounding conductors. He was electrocuted.
