Abstract: Employee #1, of Greenleaf Manufacturing, was switched from using a shaping machine to a jump saw, which he had operated for about six hours the previous day. He was using the jump saw to cut double stacked, 1 by 6 red cedar boards for planter boxes. Employee #1 picked up a stack of boards on his right and set them on the jump saw table in front of him. He then made a cut down the middle of the boards, moved half of the these boards to a pallet on his left, and cut an end trim on the other half. When this was done, he turned left to stack the second half of the boards on the pallet. As he was turning, his knee tripped the knee-activated switch that powered the jump saw. His right hand was still on the jump saw table and his thumb was amputated.
