Abstract: On March 14, 1996, Employee #1, a machine tender, was manually adjusting a 5 in. wide belt on the drive unit of a gang saw. He was attempting to take off the belt with his fingers when his right thumb became caught between the belt and the drive unit's 16 in. diameter pulley. Instead of pulling out his thumb, Employee #1 rotated the pulley a full revolution. His thumb was pinched between the belt and pulley, and partially amputated. The saw and drive unit were both locked out at the time of the accident, and the power was disconnected.
