Abstract: Employee #1 and a coworker were using synthetic twine and tire irons as stakes to lay out rows in a vineyard. The twine was wrapped around a tire iron, which also functioned as a wrench to tighten the rope. Employee #1 was approximately 3 ft from the end of the tightly pulled twine, between an anchored tire iron and one about to be pounded into the rocky soil by his coworker when the coworker lost his grip on the taut rope. It sprung back and the attached tire iron struck Employee #1 hard in the face. He sustained crushing injuries to his sinuses and fractures of his left eye socket and other facial bones.
