Abstract: On or about October 2, 1994, Employee #1, of Norton Cattle Co., was returning from dinner when he noticed that it was beginning to rain. He went to the feed lot and, once there, decided to grind additional grain for the next day instead of putting the equipment inside the storage building. When he was getting ready to leave, Employee #1 got into the tub to clean out the remaining grain so that it would not get wet. While he was in the tub kicking the grain down, his left foot was caught by the hammers. As it pulled him down, he pushed up, took hold of the edge of tub, and pulled his leg free. He fell over the edge to the ground, and then realized that his leg was gone from the knee down. He took off his shirt, tied a tourniquet on his leg, and made his way to the office, where he called 911. He was transported by ambulance to Pioneer Memorial.
