Abstract: At 4:05 p.m. on August 9, 1990, Employee #1, a journeyman union carpenter, was cutting inside trim molding with a 10 in. miter saw set for a 22 1/2 degree angle cut. He came in contact with the saw and the five fingers and a portion of his left hand were amputated. It was first reported that he was cutting a very small piece of molding, but the employee stated he thought he was cutting a long piece but he couldn't remember. The nearly new saw, Jepson model 92105, had all its guards on. Employee #1 has 3 years experience using the miter saw as a trimout finish carpenter. He has about 15 years experience as a carpenter. The employee stated that he is always very careful with the miter saw. No citations were issued. The employer has a very well written safety program.
