Abstract: At approximately 3:00 p.m. on December 14, 1994, Employee #1 was operating a Powermatic table saw, model 66, in a mill. He was ripping a 3/4 in. cut from a piece of wood 1 1/4 in. wide by 29 in. long, using a push stick with his right hand and guiding the piece of wood with his left hand. As the cut proceeded, the wood broke, causing his left hand to contact the unguarded saw blade. The tip of Employee #1's left index finger, including about 1/8 in. of bone, was amputated. He was treated at Maximed Medical Group and was transferred to Valley Orthopaedic Surgery Associates. He received a skin graft, additional doctor's visits, and therapy, but was not hospitalized overnight.
