Abstract: On September 3, 1996, Employee #1 made a face cut in a large second growth fir tree and was completing the back cut when the tree set back. He pulled out his saw but left in the wedge. He then moved approximately 16 ft behind the tree and felled another tree that was almost identical to the first, attempting to use the second tree to push it over. Employee #1 walked approximately 15 ft away from the second tree, then turned to look. A limb flew back and struck him on the front of his hard hat, breaking his neck. Emergency help was called and he was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital.
