Abstract: Employee #1, a coating operator sending rolls of paper through high speed machines applying the finish on paper, had just changed rolls. He was threading the roll end into the incoming nip point without shutting down and taping the end of the roll to the core. While shoving the end of the spool of paper into the rollers, he caught his hand in the pinch point and the full length of his left arm was pulled in. Other employees heard him yell while hanging by his arm. They shut off the machine, releasing the rider roll and freeing Employee #1. First aid was administered, and he was rushed to the hospital and into surgery. Employee #1's arm was crushed, but not severed.
