Abstract: Employee #1, a foreman, fell approximately 35 feet from a roof to the ground. This foreman was assigned to this job for one day, in between jobs, in order to continue his pay. There was snow on the roof which was beginning to melt. It was falling in chunks and water was running onto the bricklayers working on scaffolding below. They had hung plastic to deflect the water. There were only a couple of employees who had seen Employee #1, out of the corner of their eye, up on the roof. Previous to Employee #1 going up, one of the other employee's had approached the regular site foreman about going onto the roof to shovel the snow off. The foreman refused to allow it. Employee #1 took it upon himself to go up on the roof to shovel the snow off so the working conditions would be better for the bricklayers below. The other employees were all at lunch and noticed Employee #1 was not in the lunchroom. The regular jobsite foreman went to look for him and found him lying in the courtyard. Employee #1 had fallen from the roof while shoveling snow, and died of the concussion he received in the fall.
