KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will recognize the Sherwin-Williams Co. in Andover, Kan., for achievement in protecting employee safety and health at a ceremony May 18 at the company's manufacturing plant.
Sherwin-Williams, which has 147 employees who produce and ship an average of 550,000 gallons of paint per month, has been designated as a "merit" site in OSHA's prestigious Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). Merit sites meet all safety and health elements for the program, which far exceed minimum OSHA standards.
"The Sherwin-Williams Co. has exhibited excellence in safety and health management," said Charles E. Adkins, OSHA's regional administrator in Kansas City. "The company's outstanding efforts have included management commitment to safety and health, and employee involvement in safety and health programs."
OSHA's VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in the VPP achieve average injury rates that are 50 percent lower than other companies in their respective industries. More than 1,700 worksites representing more than 270 industries nationwide participate in the program.
Information kits about the VPP application and approval processes are available from OSHA's VPP manager in the Kansas City Regional Office, who can be reached at (816) 426 5861.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees.
