ST. LOUIS -- The U.S. Postal Service in Fenton, Mo., has earned membership in the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) prestigious Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) at the "Star," or highest, level.
The U.S. Postal Service facility in Fenton employs 77 people who distribute incoming mail for more than 19,000 delivery addresses divided among 36 delivery routes and post office boxes. A VPP recognition ceremony was held April 4 at that location.
"The USPS in Fenton has exhibited excellence in safety and health management," said Charles E. Adkins, OSHA's regional administrator in Kansas City, Mo. "Its outstanding efforts have included management commitment to safety and health, and employee involvement in safety and health programs."
OSHA's VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in VPP achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industries. More than 1,600 worksites of companies in more than 270 industries nationwide now participate in the program.
