will promote safety for New Orleans workers
NEW ORLEANS -- Furthering the safety and health of New Orleans employees is the goal of an alliance signed today between the Baton Rouge, La., area office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Delta Safety Society.
"This alliance provides an opportunity for OSHA and members of the Delta Safety Society to come together through forums, roundtable discussions, meetings and conferences to discuss safety and health issues associated with the needs of member employers," said Greg Honaker, OSHA's area director in Baton Rouge. "This voluntary cooperative relationship also will provide training and outreach to boost employee safety."
The Delta Safety Society is a nonprofit organization celebrating 65 years of service in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Since 1942, Delta has expanded to include members throughout New Orleans and surrounding areas. The current membership represents employers from various industries such as construction, oil and gas, shipyard, transportation and process safety management. Since Hurricane Katrina, Delta's membership continues to rebound as it serves employees in the hurricane-ravaged area.
OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. Alliances are a means for participating organizations to network with others committed to workplace safety and health and exchange information about hazards. OSHA has 471 national, regional and area office alliances nationwide with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
