OSHA Teams with MST Constructors and CFAN to Promote Construction Safety
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Providing better workplace safety for workers is the goal of a new partnership which was signed in San Marcos between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), MST Constructors Inc. and CFAN Co.
OSHA Strategic Partnerships for Worker Safety and Health is part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. OSHA's area office in Austin is working on the formation of this partnership.
"This agreement provides an opportunity for the partners to come together and build on the value of safety and health for MST and CFAN employees," said Frank Strasheim, OSHA's acting regional administrator in Dallas. "We are hopeful the cooperative effort will help reduce injuries and fatalities."
CFAN, which manufactures jet engine fan blades, is expanding its facility located at 1000 Technology Way in San Marcos. The expansion project is scheduled to be completed by mid-2007. CFAN is a member of OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program which recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management.
MST Constructors, the general contractor, specializes in metal frame commercial buildings, ranging from cold rolled structural steel to heavy red iron, both custom and pre-engineered, as well as tilt-wall and masonry construction. The company will work with OSHA to establish and enforce a comprehensive safety and health management system to be used at the worksite.
Partnerships enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to work cooperatively with OSHA. This partnership will be consistent with OSHA's long-range efforts to develop a business-government approach to safety and health management.
Employers and employees with questions about this or other OSHA partnerships may call the Austin area office at (512) 374-0271 or visit OSHA's Web site for more information at www.osha.gov (click on "Cooperative Programs").
Since its Strategic Partnership Program began in 1998, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has formed more than 300 partnerships impacting over 13,000 employers and 573,000 employees across the United States. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships, and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
