New Alliance Will Promote Safety and Health for Workers in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area
DALLAS -- Furthering the safety and health of workers involved in the plastics industry in the Dallas/Fort Worth area is the goal of an alliance signed between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Alliance for Polyurethane Industries (API).
OSHA's alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers. Through alliances, trade and professional organizations, businesses, labor organizations and educational institutions are able to participate in a voluntary cooperative relationship with OSHA for training and outreach aimed at preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.
"OSHA and API will use roundtable discussions and meetings to examine safety and health issues faced by workers involved in the application of truck bed liners," said Frank Strasheim, OSHA'S acting regional administrator in Dallas. "This cooperative agreement indicates a commitment to fostering a safer and more healthful workplace."
API, a nationwide organization, is part of the American Plastics Council. The organization, headquartered in Arlington, Va., represents U.S. producers and distributors of chemicals and equipment used to make polyurethane. API represents polyurethane product manufacturers such as Dow Corning and BASF.
The two-year alliance will provide training and educational programs to help reduce and prevent exposure of diisocyanates, a hazardous chemical used in the manufacture of truck bed liners. The agreement will also provide training and outreach to small businesses.
