Partnership to provide occupational safety and health education to teens
CLEVELAND -- The U.S. Department of Labor¿s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Polaris Career Center, based in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, have formed an alliance to develop training and education programs for construction and food service students who will potentially work in these career fields.
¿This agreement provides an opportunity for OSHA and the Polaris Career Center to come together and demonstrate that we can all benefit when labor, educators and government dedicate themselves to providing the knowledge needed for a safe and healthy work environment, especially for our young workers,¿ said Rob Medlock, OSHA¿s area director in Cleveland.
This alliance coincides with OSHA¿s launch of its national 2008 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign, ¿Construction: Build a Safe Work Foundation,¿ which is intended to help educate teens about how to have a safer and healthier work experience, especially during the peak teen summer jobs period.
Opened in 1975, Polaris Career Center has helped thousands of 11th and 12th grade students gain the knowledge and training needed to succeed in the workforce. Polaris combines real world career-technical training with related academics and employability skills.
OSHA safety and health alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao¿s ongoing efforts to improve the safety and health of employees through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. OSHA currently has more than 480 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.

It provides resources such as fact sheets on workplace rights and responsibilities, hazards on the job, ways to prevent injuries, work hours, job restrictions and more.
