PEORIA, Ill. -- Providing enhanced safety for everyone working on the Illinois Medical Center construction project in Peoria is the goal of a new partnership among the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Illinois Onsite Safety and Health Consultation Program and prime contractor P.J. Hoerr Inc.
"This agreement provides an opportunity for partnership in building upon the value of safety and health, not only for P.J. Hoerr employees but for employees of subcontractors at this site," said Nick Walters, OSHA's area director in Peoria. "We are confident that this cooperation will help reduce injuries and fatalities."
The $28 million construction project will house doctor and health care offices on five floors, two of which are dedicated to parking. It involves approximately 20 contractors and approximately 250 employees.
OSHA's Strategic Partnership Program is part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and employees. More than one million employees and more than 33,000 employers across the United States have participated with OSHA in more than 440 strategic partnerships since the program began in 1998.
