U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA and Wisconsin Association of Occupational Health Nurses renew safety and health alliance
CHICAGO -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the South Central Wisconsin Association of Occupational Health Nurses and the Wisconsin Safety and Health Consultation Services have renewed their alliance designed to reduce and eliminate nurses' exposure to blood borne pathogens and other work-related health hazards.

The alliance places a high priority on increasing safety and health awareness. A key goal is to establish a greater level of trust so that members of the state association will continue using OSHA and the state's health consultation service as resources to provide answers or compliance assistance.

"This alliance has given Wisconsin occupational health nurses better access to job safety and health information," said OSHA Area Director Kimberly Stille. "It has forged an atmosphere of cooperation and assistance among health care professionals to eliminate a variety of threats to employees, including ergonomic issues, exposure to tuberculosis and chemical handling. It is appropriate that we continue this highly successful and responsible effort."

OSHA safety and health alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. OSHA currently has more than 460 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
