U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA renews safety and health alliance with Delmarva Safety Association to protect Latino employees

WILMINGTON, Del. -- In an effort to continue helping protect area Latino employees, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Delmarva Safety Association today renewed their workplace safety and health alliance in Ocean City, Md.

Domenick Salvatore, director of OSHA's Wilmington Area Office, represented the agency at a signing ceremony during the 31st Annual Delmarva Safety Seminar and Exposition.

"This alliance is a prime example of the kind of cooperative relationships our office is promoting to professional organizations and labor groups that want to proactively address safety and health issues," said Salvatore. "The goal is to help protect employees from exposures to jobsite safety and health hazards."

Through the continuing alliance, OSHA and the Delmarva Safety Association will develop training and education programs on occupational safety and health issues specifically targeted to employers of Latino workers. They also will provide safety and health training for supervisors that will address important cultural considerations and sensitivities, and share information on best practices for reducing injuries, illnesses and fatalities for Latino employees.

OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative programs. OSHA currently has more than 470 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
