The grantee, an employer association, will work with the Flavor and Extract Manufacturing Association to provide training to hard-to-reach workers and workers in high-hazard employment in the flavoring industry in California, Illinois, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Training will sessions on hazard communication. Training and/or materials will be provided in Spanish.
Board of Trustee of the University of Illinois Champaign IL $168,000 General Industry Grain Handling Operations
The grantee will develop four training modules for trainers and provide training to community leaders. The program will be coordinated by the Grain Handling Safety Coalition which evolved in 2010 as a result of grain storage fatalities. Training will target the affected rural population, including grain elevator operators, farm workers, and young workers. Training and/or materials will be provided in Spanish.
Non-Ferrous Founders' Society Park Ridge IL $84,000 Other Hearing Conservation
The grantee will provide training on hearing conservation to limited-English, high-hazard industry workers in small businesses in the cast metals industry in California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. The program will include web-based training, webinars, and regional seminars. Training and/or materials will be provided in Spanish.
Brazilian Immigrant Center, Inc. Allston MA $69,000 Construction Fall Protection
The grantee will provide training sessions on fall protection to Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking construction workers in Massachusetts. The grantee will conduct classes for workers and employers, which will include hands-on training, including the use of conventional fall protection (harnesses). The program will include a train-the-trainer course. Training and/or materials will be provided in Portuguese and Spanish.
Tree Care Industry Association, Inc. Londonderry NH $165,000 Other Electrical Safety
The grantee will provide training on electrical hazard awareness to small businesses and limited-English, low-literacy, and hard-to-reach workers throughout 19 states. Training will consist of classroom lecture, video, case studies, and small group discussions. Training and/or materials will be provided in Spanish.
UMDNJ - School of Public Health Piscataway NJ $168,000 Construction Fall Protection
The grantee will update existing training materials and provide training on the use of competent persons in fall protection for workers in the construction industry in the New York, NY metro area. Training and/or materials will be provided in Spanish.
University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Campus San Juan PR $125,000 Other Hazard Communications
The grantee will provide bilingual (English/Spanish) training on the Globally Harmonized System (Hazard Communication) to workers within small businesses in the healthcare, education, retail utilities, salon, metal/wood/plastic, agricultural, and chemical industries throughout Puerto Rico.
University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Houston TX $165,000 Other Ergonomic Hazards
The grantee will provide training to workers who care for patients in hospital units primarily in the Houston, TX metro area. Training will include hospital and nursing home workers. Training will include best practices of safe patient handling to hospital and nursing home workers, including nurses, nurses’ aids, patient transporters, radiology technicians, occupational and physical therapists, and morgue technicians.
Hispanic Contractors Association San Antonio TX $111,900 Construction Fall Protection
The grantee will provide training on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of falls when handling, installing and bracing trusses in to residential construction workers in central and south Texas. Training and materials will be provided in Spanish.
Associated General Contractors of America Arlington VA $130,000 Construction Fall Protection
The grantee will provide training sessions on fall protection emphasizing wood frame residential construction safety and will distribute CDs of program materials at various events. The training will comply with the new residential construction directive and will target construction workers nationwide. Training and/or materials will be provided in Spanish.
Training & Educational Materials Development Grants
Research Foundation for Health and Environmental Effects Washington DC $48,000 Other Hazard Communications
The grantee will develop an online training program on hazard communications for weatherization professionals pertaining to spray polyurethane foam. Training will include web-based program targeting professionals, contractors, and applicators who work with low-pressure two-component kits/systems and insulating foam sealants. Training materials will be provided in Spanish.

The grantee will develop online fall protection training materials for the construction industry. Training will target limited-English and low-literacy construction workers. Training materials will be provided in Spanish.
