The grantee will provide health and safety training to warehouse workers in San Bernadino and Riverside counties, California. The majority of workers are immigrant and minority, with limited English proficiency and low literacy. Training will include worksite safety and health hazards recognition and prevention, and worker rights and responsibilities under OSHA.
Farmworker Legal Services of New York, Inc Rochester NY $85,000 Pilot
The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop safety and health training for low literacy migrant and seasonal farm workers in Western New York. Training will include worker rights and OSHA, heat stress prevention, ergonomics, farm equipment safety, and pesticide safety. The training and/or materials will be offered in English and Spanish.
Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck Mamaroneck NY $85,000 Pilot
The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop workplace safety and health training for low literacy and limited English immigrant day laborers and domestic workers. Training will target Hispanic workers and small businesses in Westchester and Staten Island, NY. Training will focus on OSHA, worker rights and employer responsibilities, and safety and health hazards in their workplaces.

The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop a training program on safe patient handling and movement practices for student nurses and healthcare providers in a three county area in Florida. The training and/or materials will be offered in English and Spanish.
Make the Road New York Inc Brooklyn NY $85,000 Pilot
The grantee will conduct a needs assessment to identify workplace hazards in small businesses located in New York City. Training will be developed for Latino immigrant workers and employers engaged in low-wage industries including restaurants, manufacturing, commercial laundry, and garment. The plan calls for integrating the safety materials into ESOL and job skills training classes.

The plan includes the creation of a web-based regional occupational health and safety resource center for employers. The training and/or materials will be offered in English, Spanish and Creole.
Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest Lincoln NE $85,000 Pilot
The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop a training program for the meatpacking industry in Nebraska. The target audience is workers in the high risk meatpacking industry. The meatpacking industry remains one of the most dangerous industries, with one of the highest injury and illness rates in general industry.
Northwest Wisconsin Concentrated Employment Program, Inc Ashland WI $85,000 Pilot
The grantee will conduct a needs assessment of manufacturers in two counties in northwest Wisconsin including those in paper products, wood products, food processing and heavy equipment. Training topics will include ergonomics, equipment operation, and handling of hazardous chemicals. The program includes a train-the-trainer module.

The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop training for poultry workers and employers in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. The target audiences are limited English proficiency and low-wage workers. The training and/or materials will be offered in English, Spanish and Creole.
Western Iowa Tech Community College Sioux Falls IA $90,000 Pilot
The grantee will assess worker needs and expand existing tower erection training into a Vertical Safety Training program for the growing industry of communications tower and wind power construction and maintenance. The training would also reach workers in the high-hazard industry of construction, and small to medium sized businesses.

The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop a workplace safety and health program that meets the needs of their client workers. The targeted audience is individuals with special needs including those with physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, and mental illness.
Workers Defense Project Austin TX $85,000 Pilot
The grantee will conduct a needs assessment and develop safety training modules focusing on Latino construction workers in Austin, Texas during the first year, then provide training in other geographic areas during following years. The plan is to conduct training through a train-the-trainer program.
American Federation of Teachers Educational Foundation Washington DC $220,000 Developmental

Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation Atlanta GA $220,000 Developmental
The grantee will create the Southeast Center for Young Worker Safety and Health Center to provide training, educational resources, technical experts, and online resource center for young workers, parents, teachers, and employers. The Center will build a distinct young worker safety certificate program and integrate it with technical educational curricula in the southeastern states.

The grantee will work with local labor federations and unions to assist them in institutionalizing health and safety training for low wage and immigrant workers in Southern California. The target audiences are workers in hotel, car wash and waste/recycling and high-hazard industries.

The grantee will provide training to high-hazard long-term care workers and employers on workplace safety and health hazards, worker rights, and employer responsibilities under the OSH Act. Training will include a worker session, a train-the-trainer course, and webinars. Trainers will receive a tool kit to assist them in training.
Timber Products Manufacturers, Inc. Spokane WA $220,000 Developmental
The grantee will build upon a current Harwood Grant and develop face-to-face courses, videos for video conferencing, and seven online courses on logging safety for workers in remote locations. The online course will be interactive and scenario-based using adult learning principles.
United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Washington DC $220,263 Developmental
The grantee will provide training to employers and high-risk union workers in the meatpacking, poultry, and food processing industries. Training will include worker rights, lockout, amputation hazards, ergonomics, and process safety management. The training and/or materials will be offered in English and Spanish.
