Monitoring Methods used by OSHA

Primary Laboratory Sampling/Analytical Method (SLC1):

  • sampling media: Midget Fritted Glass Bubbler (MFGB) containing 15 mL Folins Reagent
    maximum volume: 48 Liters
    maximum flow rate: 0.2 L/min
current analytical method: High Performance Liquid Chromatography; HPLC/UV
method reference: 2 (OSHA In-House File)
    method classification: Not Validated
note: OSHA personnel should obtain Folins reagent from the Salt Lake Technical Center. Store reagent in a refrigerator and discard after 5 days. While sampling, wrap impingers and vials with aluminum foil to protect from light. After sampling keep samples cool. Ship samples to the Salt Lake Technical Center by overnight carrier packaged in a container with cold packs. Notify C/P Branch chief, Salt Lake Technical Center, that samples are being shipped.

Conditions: Chloroform extraction; C18 column; 50% methanol 50% water; 1.3 mL/min; UV Det: 254; Retention time, 5 min; C/P KM NOTE: Follin's Reagent should be obtained from scale. Wrap and vials with aluminum foil to protect from light. Store in a refrigerator. Discard reagent after 5 days.

Secondary Laboratory Sampling/Analytical Method (SAM2):

  • part #: 92115
    range: 2-300 ppm

  • part #: CH 31801
    range: 0.25-3.0 ppm

  • part #: 180
    range: 1-60 ppm
