RECOMMENDATIONS APPROVED AT THE JUNE 20, 2012,
NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (NACOSH) MEETING

Peter Dooley (labor representative) moved that NACOSH reiterate its recommendations to OSHA from the February 14, June 22 and December 15, 2011, meetings that OSHA, NIOSH and other appropriate parties support and fund a symposium in 2012 to present best practices of small, medium and large workplaces on injury and illness prevention programs, and further that NACOSH recommends:

  1. OSHA and NIOSH convene a planning group in a timely fashion that includes potential partners such as the National Safety Council and other employer and labor organizations to develop to develop a schedule, work plan, target audience, budget and source of funds for a national conference (or series of regional conferences); and

  2. NIOSH take a lead role in convening the work group and planning the conference.

The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Jim Johnson (management representative) moved that NACOSH request that OSHA provide NACOSH and its Effectiveness Measures Work Group with data on operational metrics, OSHA’s strategic plan, budget by program area, OSHA complaint and random programmed inspection data by NAICS codes, and other data necessary for NACOSH to carry out Dr. Michaels’ request to the Work Group.  The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
