OSHA On-Site Consultation Program Offers Free Safety Education at the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo

Ohio's OSHA On-Site Consultation Program is offering free safety education and product resources at the annual Ohio Safety Congress & Expo (OSC14) ,which takes place March 25-27 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. OSHA's On-site Consultation Program offers free, confidential advice to small and medium-sized businesses in all states across the country, with priority given to high-hazard worksites.  Consultants from state agencies or universities work with employers to identify workplace hazards, provide advice on compliance with OSHA standards, and assist in establishing injury and illness prevention programs.  In Ohio, this program is administered through the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC), Division of Safety and Hygiene.

This year's event features a long list of nationally recognized workplace safety experts. More than 6,000 employers and workers are expected to attend to improve their safety performance and obtain education credits for professional certification. One hundred eighty educational sessions are offered on topics, such as OSHA 300 recordkeeping, hazard recognition in emphasis program industries, Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals and hazard communication compliance, common electrical violations, fall protection, forklift safety, and grain entrapment prevention. The OSC14 Expo Marketplace will feature 225 exhibitors providing safety services, industrial supplies, safety equipment and gear, and workers' compensation and medical management services.

OSHA's On-site Consultation Program's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes small business employers who operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program. Acceptance of your worksite into SHARP from OSHA is an achievement of status that singles you out among your business peers as a model for worksite safety and health. Upon receiving SHARP recognition, OSHA exempts your worksite from OSHA programmed inspections during the period that your SHARP certification is valid. Ohio On-Site Consultation Program staff will present the following education sessions:

  • Low Hanging Fruit: Common OSHA Electrical Violations
  • OSHA 300 Recordkeeping: Are You Over-recording? – Part 1 and Part 2
  • Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Panel Discussion

OSC14 is the largest and longest-running occupational safety, health, and workers' compensation event in Ohio. Regardless of your line of business or experience, OSC14 has a pathway for you.

Mark your calendar now and plan to attend!  For more information and free registration, visit www.bwc.ohio.gov, call 1-800-644-6292 or follow @OhioBWC #OSC14.
