    3. Alliance Overview

      OSHA and National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter Alliance provides members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing exposure to traffic collisions and related worker deaths and injuries, providing first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training awareness, and deliver and implement safety and health management system programs.

  2. Implementation Team Meetings

    Team meetings made up of representatives of both organizations were held periodically throughout the year to discuss ideas and strategies on disseminating information concerning training and education, outreach and communication and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. Emphasis was placed on the heat stress and fall protection in construction.

  3. Activities, Events and Products

    Training and Education

    • Training schedules for member and non-members facilities and organizations were forwarded to the General Membership, local safety organizations, area businesses and posted on the website at www.metrosafety.org. Training and presentations are also conducted on jobsites and at local events.

    Outreach and Communication

    • Baton Rouge Area Office, CAS provided an information booth at the National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter's Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet. Various OSHA publications were made available for distribution to the attendees.
    • Baton Rouge Area Office, CAS conducted training presentations for National Safety Council classes. Compliance Assistance provided a first-hand perspective for “Introduction to OSHA” course segments, along with updates on current OSHA emphasis activities.
    • OSHA publications were displayed at the National Safety Council's office for distribution to the general public.
    • OSHA publications were distributed as applicable as part of the National Safety Council's compliance courses.

    Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health

    • Throughout the year, the National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter participated in joint meetings with local safety organizations such as the Delta Safety Society and the New Orleans Chapter of the American Society of Engineers.
    • National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter attended local and state traffic safety committees promoting driver safety and the reduction of traffic accidents.
    • National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter serves on the Southeastern Louisiana University OSH&E Advisory Committee.
    • The National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter recognizes Workers Memorial Day and communicates related information to member organizations
  4. Results

    • National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter has approximately 700 corporate members and customers who have access to a greater amount of educational information and resources as a result of its alliance with OSHA's cooperative program.
    • The OSHA Area Office's Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) continues to provide OSHA update presentations and serves as an additional resource to National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter through participation in the general monthly meetings, training sessions and special events, as scheduling allows.
    • The CAS provided literature that included brochures, pamphlets and training materials which the National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter distributed at many of its safety training courses. Topics included but were not limited to: emergency preparedness, construction safety, fall protection, pandemic flu, heat stress and emergency preparedness.
    • National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter offers OSHA 10 & 30 hour classes in both General Industry and Construction throughout the year.
    • National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter in conjunction with the University of Texas-Arlington OSHA Outreach Training Institute, provides for OTI classes at its Metairie office.

  5. Upcoming Milestones

    The Chapter is planning its 2014 Traffic Safety Summit this summer to promote safety belt usage and reduce impaired & distracted driving.

    The Chapter is planning its 2015 Conference/Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet to promote workplace safety and recognize companies for improving their safety records.
