    Alliance Overview

    OSHA and National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter Alliance provides members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing exposure to traffic collisions and related worker deaths and injuries, providing first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training awareness, and deliver and implement safety and health management system programs.

  3. Implementation Team Meetings

    Team meetings made up of representatives of both organizations were held periodically throughout the year to discuss ideas and strategies on disseminating information concerning training and education, outreach and communication and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. Emphasis was placed on the Heat Stress, Global Harmonization Standard and reducing work place fatalities by stressing the predominate causes.

    Training schedules for member and non-members facilities and organizations were forwarded to the General Membership, and local safety organizations.

    Outreach and Communication

    Events

    OSHA's Baton Rouge Area Office, Compliance Assistance staff conducted training presentations for National Safety Council classes. Compliance Assistance provided a first-hand perspective for "Introduction to OSHA" course segments, along with updates on current OSHA emphasis activities. Compliance Assistance also provided information and guidance on the development and implementation of effective injury and illness prevention programs (I2P2).

    Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health

    Events

    Throughout the year, the National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter participated in joint meetings with local safety organizations such as the Delta Safety Society and the New Orleans Chapter of the American Society of Engineers to promote the national safety dialogue.

    National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter attended local and state traffic safety committees promoting driver safety and the reduction of traffic accidents with emphasis on distracted driving.

    National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter serves on the Southeastern Louisiana University OSH&E Advisory Committee.

  5. Results

    National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter has approximately 600 corporate members and customers who have access to a greater amount of educational information and resources as a result of its alliance with OSHA's cooperative program.

    The OSHA area office's Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) continues to provide OSHA update presentations and serves as an additional resource to National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter through participation in the general monthly meetings, training sessions and special events.

    The CAS provided literature that included brochures, pamphlets and training materials which the National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter distributed at many of its safety training courses. Topics included but were not limited to: amputation hazards, work zone safety, construction safety/ fall protection, heat stress and emergency preparedness.

    National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter is currently offering OSHA 10 & 30 hr class in both General Industry and Construction throughout the year.

    National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter in conjunction with the University of Texas-Arlington, is an OSHA Outreach Training Institute, offering OTI classes at its Metairie office.

  6. Upcoming Milestones

    National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter will hold its 62nd Annual Safety Award Banquet on April 3, 2013. The Area Director for the OSHA, Baton Rouge Area Office will be a guest speaker. There will be a display table to make OSHA publications available. An OSHA representative will staff the table during the event to answer OSHA questions from the attendees. About 130 are expected to attend.
