    Alliance Overview

    The Ohio Operating Engineers Apprenticeship and Training Fund and International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18 Alliance provides Local 18 members, OSHA staff and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect the health and safety of workers, particularly by reducing and preventing hazards associated with cranes, earth moving and other construction equipment, trenching and excavation hazards, health hazards, such as noise and heat stress, and understanding the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).

      • January 20, 2012 - A Toledo Area Office (AO) CSHO assisted in a 30-hour OSHA course held at the Cygnet Training Center
      • June, 2012 - A Cleveland AO CSHO organized and conducted a day training session on quick couplers held at the Richfield Training Center
    • Outreach and Communication
      • July 24, 2012 - The Toledo AO CAS emailed the most recent Construction Fatality Digest publication to the instructors at the Cygnet Training Center
      • October 23, 2012 - The Toledo AO CAS emailed the most recent Construction Fatality Digest publication to the instructors at the Cygnet Training Center
    • Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health
      • June 7, 2012 - The Toledo AO participated in and worked an information booth at the Ohio Utilities Protection Service Safety Day held at the Cygnet Training Center
      • August 22, 2012 - The Cleveland AO has coordinated the Richfield Training Center Coordinator to speak at and assist with another AO Alliance (Cleveland Safety Forum)
      • November 7, 2012 - The Cleveland AO has coordinated the Richfield Training Center Coordinator to speak at and assist with another AO Alliance (Cleveland Safety Forum)

  4. Results

    1. The Operating Engineers/OSHA Alliance has provided an opportunity to increase the safety and health knowledge of operators and OSHA staff across Ohio. OSHA personnel are able to provide current occupational safety and health information to instructors and operating engineer journeymen and apprentices utilizing the training services at the Regional Training Centers. OSHA staff in turn is able to contact instructors and business agents to get expert information in the operation, maintenance and training for equipment.
