Alliance Overview:
The purpose of this Alliance is to establish a collaborative relationship with Project BEST members with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect the health and safety of workers, particularly by addressing hazards associated with construction activities, and understand their rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).

Planning meetings were held in September 2014, October, 2014, and March, 2015. The meetings were held either via email or in-person to plan for specific events. Additionally, OSHA updates were given at the monthly Project BEST meetings.

Alliance Activity
- Awareness and Education:
- The Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) has attended Project BEST Board of Directors and safety committee meetings at which she provides an “OSHA Update” on new and updated OSHA regulations, current initiatives, and policies. OSHA information is also shared through the Project BEST website that has a link to the OSHA website.
- OSHA initiatives of Heat Illness Prevention, Fall Prevention, and the National Fall Prevention Stand Down were promoted. Publications were given to participants at the meetings and through email.
- Outreach and Communication:
- A training session sponsored by Project BEST was held on October 22, 2014. The Columbus Area Director presented information about “OSHA Citation Process.” Additionally, the new OSHA recordkeeping reporting requirements were covered.
- Project BEST’s consultant works directly with the Columbus Compliance Assistance Specialist and requests input on BEST’s weekly safety bulletins that include OSHA fatality statistics.
- Promotion of National Dialogue:
- Project BEST disseminated to all members the 2015 National Safety Stand Down information to encourage participation.
