    Alliance Overview.

    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. (SCPBC) agreed to establish an Alliance to reduce motor vehicle and work zone traffic accidents by sharing information, guidance, and training resources.

  2. Implementation Team Meetings

    Training Class –July 30, 2007 – defensive driving class for the OSHA compliance staff

    Meeting – January 9, 2008, met to discuss direction of alliance

    Meeting – January 17, 2008 met at Pronto Mowers to discuss Landscape Seminar

    Meeting - April 28, conference call to discuss alliance

     
  3. Activities and Products

    Landscape Seminar – March 18, 2008, Participated in landscape seminar hosted by Pronto Mowers in Boca Raton, Florida

    Awards Ceremony – March 8, 2006, Recognition of companies and organizations with exceptional safety & health programs

    Alliance Activity.
     
    • Training and Education
      A total of 50 classes addressing occupational safety and health such as forklift operator training, MOT training at different levels, CPR and First Aid

      10 OSHA OTI Courses through the University of South Florida
       
    • Outreach and Communication
      Assisted in the distribution of safety & health outreach material such as the Region IV Photo and Falls CDs , Tool Box Review Booklet, and OSHA Quick
       
    • Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health
      Awards ceremony to recognized members for innovative safety and health programs such as (1) The City of Boca Raton for their proactive approach to emergency preparedness fuel teams; (2) Hardrives won an Excellence Award for Worker Safety for reducing their loss day cases by 32%. (3) The Weitz Company received and Excellence Award for Worker Safety and (4) Carpenter Contractors also received an Excellence Award for Worker Safety for reducing their incident rate by 38%.

  4. Results
     
    1. The partnership with USF has allowed safety & health training to be available in South Florida. Training and outreach in the construction industry has helped to reduce the number of fatalities in construction in South Florida.

  5. Upcoming Milestones
     
    • Continue to promote occupational safety and health in the Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Indian River counties
       
    • Continue to partner with University of South Florida OTI Ed center to host OSHA courses
       
    • Continue to promote safety and health management systems
       
    • Continue to provide training for workers in safe operation of forklifts, and motor vehicle safety
