    Alliance Overview

    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Safety Council (NSC) Alliance are focused on reducing and preventing employee exposure to workplace hazards in the construction and general industries.

  4. Representatives from OSHA and the NSC participated in Alliance meetings on the following dates: August 6, 2009; January 26, 2010; September 9, 2010; February 4, 2011; and April 4, 2011.

    Events

    • During this period, the Alliance group continued to expand the NSCs Forklift Training Institute, with the goal of ensure that all area employers and employees have access to effective powered industrial truck safety and health training.
    • During this period, the Alliance group continued to provide effective work zone safety training in South Florida, for employers and employees engaged in the highway and bridge construction operations.
    • During this period, the Alliance group led by the NSC conducted a total of 20 classes addressing occupational safety and health focused in the following topics:
      • Forklift Operations
      • Principles of Occupational Safety
      • Safety Management Techniques and Training Methods
      • Maintenance of Traffic and Flagger Safety Training
      • Hazwoper Refresher
      • OSHA 10 and 30 hour Training for Construction and General Industries
      • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training

  8. The outreach activities have reached employees exposed to hazards that have resulted in many of the fatalities in South Florida.

  9. Upcoming Milestones
    • Develop a South Florida Taskforce focused on the prevention falls during roofing construction operations.

    • Continue to promote the OSHA Outreach 30-hour courses, to assure that supervisors are knowledgeable of their responsibilities in protecting employees from exposures to hazards.

    • Continue to conduct breakfast sessions on various workplace safety and health topics for NSC-members and non-members, especially small business owners.
