    3. Overview

      The Alliance with the Independent Electrical Contractors(IEC), Dallas Chapter, and the Dallas Area OSHA Office is directed towards collaboration in outreach efforts in reducing injuries, illnesses and fatalities in the electrical contractor industry. The IEC offers OSHA representatives a platform during quarterly Safety Round-Table meetings amongst IEC member to participate in workplace safety and health leadership awareness. OSHA provides IEC staff members and their workers with information regarding resources available for employers and workers regarding construction worker safety and health.

  2. Implementation Team Meetings

    Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) Elias Vela did not participate at IEC Safety Round-Table meetings during this evaluation period. IEC Dallas Chapter President Brian Dean, Executive Director Jerry Thomas and OSHA Dallas Area Director Basil Singh, CAS Elias Vela met on July 5, 2017 to discuss the exchange of email notifications of OSHA events and Safety Campaigns during the previous year and plans to be more pro-active and meet monthly, or at least once a quarter in the next year.

    In addition to these formal meetings, the Alliance coordinators from both groups will maintain regular contact throughout the following year to monitor the Alliance's progress and results.

    IEC Dallas Chapter consists of 67 member electrical construction contractors of various quantities of workers enrolled in the IEC 4-year training program. Safety Consultant Pat Thomas, of "Thomas Loss Control," has been providing IEC Member Contractors with Safety Training.

    The renewal Alliance agreement will be modified to include OSHA outreach presentations at safety training being provided at the IEC facility, participation and IEC Safety Round-table meeting, and other IEC Member meetings and annual trade-shows.

  3. Results

    The following table summarizes the Alliance's activities in support of the goals in the Alliance agreement.

    Participation in the alliance has helped maintain and improve the knowledge and sharing of best practices. In addition to the meetings covering National Safety Stand-Down for Falls in Construction, heat stress, distracted driving, distracted driving policies, and other topics, information on fatality trends, and best practices, was provided. During these meetings/communications, OSHA outreach literature was distributed to the IEC Members.

    Outreach and Communication: Develop information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and ways of communication such information working in Dallas, Texas. To speak, exhibit, or appear at the Participants' conferences, local meetings, or other events.

  4. Evaluations

    Previous evaluation was conducted on July 5, 2017 after a meeting with Jerry Thomas.

  5. Upcoming Milestones

    The DAO has reached out to the IEC, Dallas Chapter to attend meetings scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month. The DAO has also reached out to the IEC, Dallas Chapter to participate in, and facilitate free OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Courses. A meeting is scheduled in the near future to discuss the continuation of this Alliance agreement.
