We have researched our history for fall incidents and plan to review them with all employees. We have developed a stand down safety topic that is relevant to our industry and exposures and will present it on May 5, 2015. A letter is being sent to the local newspaper covering the event and extending an invitation to attend and participate. We will present a brief daily safety topic (tool box) addressing fall prevention each day of the two week program, and we will conduct our annual competent person harness and lanyard inspection during the week of May 4-8, 2015.

Patriot Safety will conduct training exercises on high-angle rescue with the Nucor-Yamato Steel Emergency Response Team at the pavilion across from Mill (weather permitting). Local businesses, industries, and the fire department are expected to attend. Nucor-Yamato Steel will hand out OSHA Fall Protection Quick Cards prior to the event. Description: To support the National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction Houston South Area OSHA Office, U.S. Department of Labor (OSHA), Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC of Greater Houston), American Subcontractors Association-Houston Chapter (ASA-HC), Central South Carpenters Regional Council (CSCRC - Houston), Gulf Coast Safety Institute/College of the Mainland (GCSI-COM), and Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) have aligned to offer the Houston area construction industry an afternoon of presentations and demonstrations to assist in preventing falls.

On May 12, 2015 the inaugural Houston Fall Prevention Day will start at 1 p.m. Presentations followed by demonstrations on how to prevent falls will run until 6 p.m. Attendees will learn proper techniques to inspect scaffold plank, how to correctly inspect fall protection, learning how to assess jobs while using aerial work platforms, and rescue methods are a few topics. Owners, managers, general contractors, safety directors, subcontractors, and the workers that are in the construction industry will find value in the Houston Fall Prevention Safety Day.
