OSHA has targeted the industry in its Strategic Plan to reduce injuries and illnesses and prevent fatalities.
- September 4 - [NEW OSHA Technical Links Page - Eye and Face Protection] - Thousands of people are blinded each year from work-related eye injuries. Every day, an estimated 1,000 eye injuries occur in American workplaces. These injuries could be prevented with the proper selection and use of eye and face protection. Eye injuries cost more than $300 million per year in lost production time, medical expenses, and workers compensation. However, the effect these accidents have on the injured workers cannot be measured monetarily.
