OSHA AWARDS GRANT TO DEVELOP INTERNET TRAINING PROGRAM

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today awarded a $98,298 grant to train lumber dealers and employers in an Internet-based OSHA expert compliance assistance system.

The Lumbermen's Research Foundation of Washington, D.C., will use the grant funds to develop training programs using Internet based software, including development of safety and health compliance profiles for their facilities and use of Material Safety Data Sheets.

The foundation will also conduct employer training seminars and make materials available to member companies of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealer Association, which employ more than 290,000 people throughout the United States.

OSHA awards training grants to nonprofit organizations to bolster workplace recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplaces. The program emphasizes three areas: educating small businesses with 250 or fewer workers; training in new OSHA Standards; and training in high risk activities or hazards identified by OSHA.
