STATEMENT BY ASSISTANT SECRETARY JOHN L. HENSHAW ON GUILTY PLEA BY TYLER PIPE COMPANY

WASHINGTON - Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health John L. Henshaw has issued the following statement on the July 19, 2002 guilty plea by the Tyler Pipe Company in the criminal case of the United States vs. Tyler Pipe Company:

"The death of any worker is of grave concern to OSHA. The guilty plea of Tyler Pipe Company in this criminal case associated with the death of Mr. Horace Hoskin is an important first step for this company in assuring a safe and healthful workplace for its employees. While this guilty plea cannot restore Mr. Hoskin to his grieving family, we sincerely hope that it will prompt Tyler Pipe and others like them, to take seriously its responsibilities to protect the lives and safety of its workers. OSHA will not waver in its commitment to ensure that Tyler Pipe does just that, and lives up to its obligations under the law."
