Dear Mr. Lewis:

This is in response to your letter of March 5, requesting a clarification of the Occupational Safety and Heath Administration (OSHA) requirement for the width of planks used on pump jack scaffolds.

Please be advised that section 1926.451(b)(2)(i) requires that pump jack scaffolds have platforms that are at least 12 inches wide. This requirement was published in the Federal Register (61 FR 46107) on August 30, 1996, and has not been changed subsequently.
