March 16, 1978 Mr. Dominque Gignoux, President Industrial Gauging and Control, Inc. 8605 Grovemont Circle Post Office Box 485 Gaithersburg, Maryland 20760 Dear Mr. Gignoux: This is in response to your letter regarding grain elevator explosions. Please accept my apology for the delay in response. We appreciate your comments on electrostatic discharge in grain storage silos as being a possible cause of fires and explosions. Our technical staff is collecting and evaluating all possible data on this subject, in order to find solutions and effective means of controlling conditions that are causing fires and explosions in the grain elevator industry. At present, we are conducting detailed and thorough investigations of the recent grain elevator explosions. At the conclusion of these investigations, we will share our findings, facts and other information obtained with the industry and other interested parties. You may be assured that when the final report is completed, a copy will be forwarded to you. For your information, enclosed is a copy of the Grain Elevator Industry Hazard Alert booklet that we have sent out to the industry. If I may be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Eula Bingham Assistant Secretary Occupational Safety and Health Enclosure |
