Safety Director
Donohoe Construction Co., Inc.
2139 Wisconsin Ave., NW
Washington, D.C. 20007

Dear Mr. Schiffman:

This is in response to your letter dated September 4, 1975 concerning standpipes.

The wording "shall be brought up as soon as applicable laws permit" does pertain to local code requirements such as fire and building codes. Where standpipes are required they shall be maintained as construction progresses in such a manner that they are always ready for fire protection use. The protable extinguisher requirements are found in section 1926.150(c) of the constructtion standards and are in addition to the standpipe requirements.

Your interest in occupational safety and health is appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

DAVID H. RHONE
Assistant Regional Director
for Occupational Safety and Health
