Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPOPPROC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to possible lightning strike and slip hazards working on a telecommunications tower in the rain: a.On or about November 23, 2004, three employees were allowed to remain at the top of a 300 feet tall tower in the rain for approximately 30-45 minutes, and then continued working after the rain had stopped, exposing the employees to possible lightning hazards and slip hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have the employees climb down from the towers before it starts to rain in the area. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED.
